IRAQ, SEVEN YEARS OF OCCUPATION AND CRIME

Seven years ago, following the greatest and most intensive campaign of lies and media terror in history, the George W. Bush administration, formed by a clique of delinquents, neo-conservative ideologists and Zionists, launched a criminal war against Iraq whose exact balance of deadly victims among its population is incalculable, but which all agree reaches hundreds of thousands.

On March 16, 2003, “The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse”—George W. Bush, Tony Blair and José María Aznar—met in the Azores Islands to coordinate the last steps of the plan they had agreed upon two years earlier and fix the time to start the attacks.

The aggression was accomplished four days later, passing over the UN Security Council where, in spite of the huge pressure exerted they had not succeeded in “legalizing the crime”.

Iraq had become a very important target in the imperialist hegemonic ambitions: it had the second largest oil and gas reserves in the world, and the control of its geographical position in the heart of the Middle East would facilitate the promotion of changes in countries opposed to the interests of the United States and Israel.

To strike the Arab nationalist trends was essential to defeat the Palestinian expectations to recover their legitimate rights and oblige the countries in the region to accept Israel and restore to normal the relations with the Jewish state.

Now, seven years after the beginning of the criminal war, it may be established that the United States and their allies have failed in achieving their purposes.

However, they have caused huge destruction in the country and, failing to control it, have promoted sectarian struggles and internal clashes that will be hard to overcome in the short or middle term.

The elections of a new parliament carried out in recent days and the appointment of the new government, which the propaganda has tried to present as a democratic process, has little credibility and no validity in a country occupied by nearly 100,000 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of mercenaries, now called “contractors”.

It is necessary to continue the mobilization to demand the end of Iraq’s military occupation, and allow its people to dedicate itself peacefully to the reconstruction and to heal the deep wounds caused by the foreign aggression and meddling.

Solidarity with the resistance and support to the Iraqi patriots are duties of all progressive and peace-loving forces in the world.
